The Video Every Pregnant Mama Needs

Thursday, July 24th, 2014

After many wonderful years of dreaming of a collaboration with midwife Gail Tully, “The Spinning Babies Lady” and I joined forces and created a video called Daily Essentials. This was a dream of joining Gail’s amazing pregnancy and birth knowledge with my passion for prenatal yoga. So when I found out I was expecting last year, Gail and I were energized to bring this dream to life.

So what is Daily Essentials? This video gives you simple, daily exercises to: • balance your pregnant body • make the most space for baby’s best birth position • and create the most ease for your opening during the birth process

We wish for all mothers to have a birth that is empowering and smooth. These basic daily poses and yoga flow will support ALL mothers. It is truly a MUST have. It is simple to follow and empowering for mind, body and spirit. As a doula I encourage all care providers (doulas, midwives and OBs) to have several copies on hand for their mothers.

Blooma Is … “Challenging, Rewarding, Expanding, Affirming … FUN”

Monday, June 3rd, 2013

Dear Blooma, It is with the utmost joy that I get to share with you the impact my Blooma experience had with my dear Alluna Grace’s birth! Being in my third pregnancy and passionate about natural childbirth since my first, I had always had a desire to have a waterbirth which lead me to Health Foundations in St Paul.  Living in rural Iowa, our opportunities for midwives, waterbirths, and the like are very slim, in fact, many people don’t even know natural childbirth still exists! Health Foundations’ website linked me to Blooma!  I bought the Be Blooma Well Prenatal Yoga DVD and awoke for most of my second and third trimesters to Sarah and the momma gang!

imageThe DVD was exactly what I needed to affirm my strength and inner wisdom while at home! I was questioning my choice of a waterbirth after discussion with my rural doctor, but after watching the birth experiences on the DVD I knew I was making the right choice!READ MORE

A Gorgeous CD for Birth, Postnatal, Yoga — Or Any Time!

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

The talented Carin Vagle recently released a new CD, Her Story, and we at Blooma are BIG fans. Many of you already know Carin; her music and vocals accompany the prenatal yoga practice in the Be Blooma Well Prenatal Yoga DVD and she’s performed at Bellyrama, Blooma’s outdoor yoga festival for mamas. Her Story, now sold at both Blooma St. Paul and Minneapolis (and coming soon to our online store!), is a CD you’ll adore. The recordings were originally done for Blooma’s DVD, then Carin edited the vocal meditations and selected her favorite passages for an ethereal musical score that mamas, doulas, holistic practitioners and teachers can listen to when practicing yoga, when birthing, when working — or whenever you choose. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA “The type of singing in Her Story draws from my studies in classical South Indian singing as well as Yoga of Voice and many other explorations in somatic movement and sound,” says Carin. “My favorite way to connect with my baby during pregnancy was through vocal meditations and sounding… “Singing while pregnant was a rich time of connecting with the vast landscape within and feeling the heavenly presence of my own little one. Recording for the Blooma DVD while pregnant became one of my favorite recording experiences ever!” In “Her Story,” Carin accompanies herself with a North Indian drone instrument called a Shruti. “The Shruti drones with natural wood and bellows and creates a rich textured ocean of tones to vocalize with,” Carin says. Then there are Carin’s gorgeous paintings as the CD’s insert and cover! She explains that the images come from her explorations with painting fertility figures and symbols before she became pregnant. “I was drawn to the ancient image of fertility horns because of my desire to become a mother,” she says. “I explored this theme and learned that throughout many cultures horns represent the fallopian tubes, the uterus, the circle of life.” “As the selections of songs from the recording for Blooma came together there was a certain mystical and ancient sound that I felt the fertility painting expressed,” Carin says. “The archetype of the Maiden becoming a Mother. The welcoming of a new life.” Love, Alisa, Sarah & the women of Blooma

Birth Story: “I just lost all my inhibitions”

Thursday, October 11th, 2012

Today’s birth story comes from Maggie W. in Texas, who started her pregnancy here in Minnesota, then moved home to be closer to family. We’re thrilled she kept the Blooma vibe going by practicing to the Blooma Prenatal Yoga DVD — even while in early labor. As Maggie writes, she lost all her inhibitions once she was deep into labor. (Mamas, that’s one reason why we practice all those Ahhhhhhs in class — so you’re comfortable with letting go in labor.) Thanks for sharing your fabulous story, Maggie. We miss you in Minnesota!READ MORE

Blooma Blossoms: Harper, Lachlan & Ayla!

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Let’s send a loving welcome to Blooma’s latest Blossoms. Enjoy these sweet birth announcements and photos. Welcome to the world, little ones! Love, Alisa, Sarah & the women of Blooma __

Melissa and Baby Harper

I just wanted to send a quick note to the lovely Blooma community that we had a beautiful baby girl on Aug. 25. Harper London was born a healthy 7 lbs, 12 oz and 20.5 inches long. My husband, Dereck and I are simply in love with her. My labor and delivery was an incredibly empowering experience. My yoga practice at Blooma provided me with strength and determination to deliver Harper naturally without any pain medication. A special thanks to Danielle Deremer our fabulous doula, and Angela, Corrine, and Sarah for the great yoga classes, Stacy and Meredyth for great prenatal massages, and most importantly to the amazing pregnant women I was fortunate enough to meet and share space with. -Melissa __ From yoga teacher Corrine Gernes about the below announcement: “Mel came to St. Paul all spring and then moved back to Australia with her husband- but took some Blooma love (and the DVD) with her! Yay for Blooma mamas on the other side of the world!” Hey Corrine! Tze and I are very pleased to announce the birth of our son, Lachlan, on 1 August 2011.  We are thrilled that our baby boy has arrived and hope that it won’t be too long before he has a chance to meet you! The DVD was fantastic! I feel like I know Sarah and those other mums really well now as I was practicing with the DVD 4-5 days a week, right up to 2 days before I went into labour! Best wishes, Mel and Tze __

Birth story: From goddess pose to birthing mama

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

Rest assured, mama, you aren’t the only one who thinks Goddess pose is a toughie! But here’s why we at Blooma LOVE Goddess pose: its intensity helps prepare your mind and body for labor and birth, no matter what kind of birth you’re planning. Read on for one mama’s birth story and her thanks to Goddess pose! Love, Alisa, Sarah & the women of Blooma ___ They sometimes brought me to tears, but ten weeks later, I’m still thanking my lucky stars for every goddess pose I did during my prenatal yoga sessions. The Sunday before I was “due,” I remember Summer mentioning that it was going to be her last Sunday morning prenatal session. I responded, “Ha! Me too!” half joking, thinking that our baby would join us the next Saturday – on her “due date.” Two weeks – and several yoga classes – later, I was scheduled for an induction. The Friday before I was set to go in to the hospital, I went to one last yoga class in the small studio. As I sank into one last goddess pose, I pushed myself even further. I closed my mind to the world and told myself, “You can do this!” Later that evening, as with my son, Otis, three years earlier, my water broke. I labored at home throughout the evening and headed to the hospital with my husband, and our amazing doula, in the morning. When Otis was born, from the time my water broke to the time he took his first breath, I had experienced a 31-hour rollercoaster. While I knew this labor would be shorter, I also knew that I was going to have to have the same focus and determination this time around. With every contraction, I again closed my mind to the world, sank deeper, went inside myself and said, “You can do this!” …and I did. Baby Esther was born on June 4th – a 9lb. 13oz. wonder! I don’t think I could have had either of my kids “med-free” without the Blooma community (including the inspiring women on the DVD), my fantastic doula, or my supportive husband. Thanks for everything! Kamie

Give up some love for Blooma’s DVD

Friday, August 12th, 2011

Whether you live near or far from Blooma, our new prenatal yoga DVD is a must-have for your home practice. And your preggo friends out-of-state will ADORE this DVD as a gift! Fans of the DVD have been flattering us with their reviews on Amazon.com. We don’t mean to boast, but we are honestly so excited to have eleven FIVE-STAR reviews! Here’s one we’ll share… then please share your own review!
As a Blooma client I was hesitant to order as I thought there was no way a DVD could compare to their in-house experience. Boy was I wrong! This DVD is amazing! Sarah is a gift to all expectant mothers. The yoga moves she guides you through are easily adapted to all experience levels. The super bonus is the birth stories at the end. It was highly empowering to be part of these women’s individual births and provided me with an overwhelming sense of “I can do this and it doesn’t have to be a crazy experience.”
Thank you, to all Blooma mamas for sharing in our birthing community. No matter what type of birth you’re planning, we hope you’ll find inspiration here. Love, Alisa, Sarah & the women of Blooma
